Steve Rack Solo Exhibition Info

The Snuggletuff exhibition starts on the 6th April and ends on the 29th April (not the 5th). Admission is free. The gallery address is Swindon Arts Centre, 6 Devizes Rd, Swindon, SN1 4BJ, and you can get directions via Google here: http://bit.ly/aQOber . The gallery doors are open from 9 to 5 Monday to Friday, and 10 to 1 on a Saturday. All art is available to buy.

‘Snuggletuff’ is a somewhat subdued affair in comparison to what you might expect from me – there are no colours – simply 23 black and white large printed illustrations, which I have drawn over to give a personal touch – I want to give people an insight into my imaginative thought process, because sometimes I feel as though my preliminary sketches somehow capture a sense
of magic that can get sometimes become a little lost once I have inked and coloured in the art. They are very raw. The art is mounted on to board with a hoop attached to the back. They are each approximately A2 in size. Each one is priced at £45.00.

The exhibition drawings are based around the world of Snuggletuff. Those of you that know my work will probably have seen Snuggletuff in my work before. Snuggletuff lives in Merry Berry Forest, along with a bunch of other curious creatures. Snuggletuff is often accompanied by his little friend Haphap; a tiny, yellow ball of flapping glee. In this exhibition, I have introduced a whole host of other characters that include King Octopia, Puzzle the Path Finder, The Quiffles and The Tower Healer, plus a few old favourites like Maggy Bubble, Twilight Charmer, Luvvahug and Flubbalub.

Swindon’s Frequency Magazine very kindly printed an article about the exhibition in this month’s edition, and the BBC’s Big Screen in Swindon’s town centre are screening scenes from the exhibitions throughout April – things I am much grateful for.

I hope you enjoy the exhibition, and if you have any questions, please let me know.

Oh, and just in case your wondering what Snuggletuff looks like in colour (for those of you that are new to the character), here he is in colour (with Haphap).

Snuggletuff is one of my first character creations, and it was the general response that I had from this character that inspired me to continue to create the world that he lives in. Mimobots (famed for creating USB Flash drives based on designer toys) even wrote in their mySpace blog that Snuggletuff is, "...just one of the most adorable creatures I've ever seen!"

Speaking of designer toys, about a year ago I was in talks with a company with regards to turning Snuggletuff into a vinyl toy, but unfortunately the plans fell through due to lack of funding. This is, however, something that I am still very much interested in pursuing perhaps in the future.
